
Ruth
W. Bass, MS, CCC-SLP
Ruth has a Master of Science degree in Communicative
Disorders from California State University, Northridge,
and a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude in Communicative
Disorders from the California State University, Northridge.
Ruth is licensed through the California
Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board and certified
through the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
She is a member of the American Speech Language Hearing
Association (ASHA), the California Speech Language Hearing
Association (CSHA), the Autism Society of America (ASA),
and the National Stuttering Association (NSA).
Ruth has received awards for continuing
education (ACE) from American Speech Language and Hearing
Association and is a recipient of an Outstanding Student
Award from the California Speech Language and Hearing
Association. She was honored at the Year of the Child
Who Stutters Symposium for her commitment and volunteer
service with the National Stuttering Association. She
was awarded scholarships from Zeta Phi Eta, a national
professional fraternity for communication arts and sciences,
Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society, and she is a lifetime
member of the national leadership honor society, Omicron
Delta Kappa.
Ruth has spent many years working with
children who stutter as director of activities with
the National Stuttering Association at Pasadena City
College. She was a graduate assistant in the early intervention
clinic at California State University, Northridge and
facilitated social communication groups for children
with autism under the direction of the University of
California, Los Angeles Neuropsychiatric Institute at
their Burbank, Pasadena, and Irvine locations.
Ruth had the privilege of studying under
her esteemed colleague Vivian Sheehan while working
with groups of adults who stutter. She interned at the
Glendale Adventist Medical Center working with patients
who were recovering from neurological impairments doing
diagnostics as well as providing individual and group
therapy to adults with aphasia, dysarthria, and apraxia
in acute, rehabilitation, transitional care, and outpatient
settings.
On a personal note, Ruth is a proud grandmother
who enjoys traveling, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking,
and golfing. She spent a portion of her childhood in
Middle East and went to boarding school in Europe. As
a result of this enriching experience, she has been
exposed to many cultures and languages, and enjoys working
with the people from all walks of life. She opened her
pediatric private practice on Fashion Island in Newport
Beach in 2001, where she takes great pleasure seeing
the positive difference she makes in the lives of the
children and families with whom she works.
